What we do
Stewardship on Saratoga lake has become an important part of
invasive species control. The stewards inspect every boat for invasive species
everyday between Memorial day and labor Day from 7a.m. to 4 p.m. As well as
inspecting every boat the stewards take recreational use data such as the
number of people and boats, the horse power of boats, what type of motors they
have, what type of boats they are, where they have been in the last two weeks,
what time they launched, and if they had any prior knowledge of invasive
species. Keeping this data allows SLIPD
to answer important questions such how many boats and people come during the
week compared to how many people come during the weekend, how many invasive
species the stewards have stopped from entering the Saratoga Lake, what
different lakes people traveled to before entering Saratoga Lake, and how many
people took steps to stop invasive species.
Stewardship : related to the environment , the concept of
responsible caretaking, based on the premise that we do not own natural
resources, but are managers of them and responsible to the future generations
for their condition.
Who we work for
The Stewardship is funded by the Saratoga Lake Protection and Improvement District (SLPID) to promote stewardship of Saratoga Lake.
